Olympic Glory

This haibun is not a political haibun. It is not a commentary on Paris Olympic Opening ceremony. It does not opine about the vitriole of those claiming offense before understanding the entire context of that Olympic Performance (TM). It does not comment on the irony of all the uttered outrage over what turns out to have been a bacchanalia tableau.

Viva La France

no matter how many

wring their hands

No, this haibun is a celebration of unity through sporting competition. It’s a hat tip to the greatest gymnast in the modern history of the sport, Simone Biles. It’s an exclamation over the thrill of seeing one’s nation’s team take Gold. It’s a testament to the determination and sacrifie of so many young athletes who did whatever it took to earn their opportunity.

Ye Olympic games

if only we all honored

your spirit daily

I’m hosting Haibun Monday over at dVerse today, where we write about this year’s 2024 Summer Olympics!

I agree the co-operative spirit of the Olympics is what we need to happen every day. That would be amazing!

A refreshing take on the Olympics, Frank, particularly as it reminds us to clear away much of the noise surrounding the occasion in the interest of unity through sports. Loved your two haiku as well for their concision. Many thanks once more for the prompt!
