Our Standing Ground… a #haibun #quadrille for .@dVersePoets

Where is our root?

On shifting fashions,

like that house built on sand,

awaiting the tumolt

and inevitable ruin?

Or on authentic sense,

that citadel founded on rock,

indifferent to buffeting winds

and punishing waters?

autumn rain

a swollen brook eroding

a well-worn rock

Mish hosts dVerse Poets Pub’s Quadrille #45–rock tonight!

A valuable question for all to sincerely consider. I love the ending haiku.

I hope it would be: citadel founded on rock ~

Good distinction between shifting fashions and authentic sense.

Thanks, Frank. Seems that there’s way too much of the former and far too little of the latter.

So much symbolism in that autumn rain. So much of truth.

A thought provoking quadrille/haibun. I feel society will be forced to go back to the basic solidity of authenticity when shifted fashions get us nowhere. At least I hope so.

I think even the solid rock can give way to relentless waves. We have to build our house on higher ground.

Several people seem to be exploring this question. You do it particularly deftly.

One of the few constants in life is change, the short half-life of fashion or slang. The older I become, the more difficulty I have adapting, shifting my comfort zone.

We need rock solid values or a tide of evil will wash us away.

Your poem is built on nothing less…. Brilliant write about a rock that withstands the onslaught of waves; while we are inundated by the latest wave… the latest wave… the latest wave. Well done!

I wonder how many waves must one endure, before pieces break off into the sands of time?
