Covert Essentials: a #TankaTuesday #TankaProse (12/4/18)

Wind-tossed hair. Light rippling across turf-pounding crests. The roar of sea slapping land. The whirl of wind peeling around a bluff jutting into a foamy sea. The intimacy of losing every sense of separation from creation, amidst the battering elements that intoxicate every sense. The stillness inherent in the movement of wind and water. The Spirit at work within.

Wind

and  rushing

water

What more can I say about

the mystery of poetry?

I especially love the way this opens up its layers to me:

“The intimacy / of losing every sense / of separation / from creation”

Each new phrase alters the message.

Yes! The erosion of a more primitive world at work. We have a duty as poets chisel just the same. And those double-letters are sharp tools!

The sea can always inspire us can’t it? Now calm, then singing, then roaring like a proud mother with the lives of countless millions in her care. She is not happy with us as humanity just doesn’t care about her.

This is beautiful Frank! i love the feeling of freedom. It reminds of a piece I wrote in 1991 called “Observing A Gull”, shortly after we moved to Oregon. I was standing at the very edgr of a cliff in Ecola State Park, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, watching a gull circling on the thermal climbs. I was overtaking by the feeling of being untethered fro earth. Amazing moment. I got that sense from reading your hsibun here. Loved it… :-/)
