Emptied Quivers: A #quadrille #haibun

One knocked arrow after another flies. A rain of fletch from bags and quivers. And French knights fall by the score. Archers hold the muddy field as surviving knights flee.

Emptied Quivers. The key to Henry V’s victory.

I think you should give the Welsh longbowmen the credit. They wouldn’t be pleased to hear you call them English ๐Ÿ™‚

Indeed, Jane! As one of Celtic descent myself, I should hang my head in shame! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Soon Welsh and English will mean more or less the same thing. After Brexit, the unification of Ireland will move a step closer, and the Scots will likely finally demand their independence. The UK will mean England and Wales ๐Ÿ™‚

I am deeply, deeply enamored of this line:
“A rain of fletch from bags and quivers.”

This is such an interesting viewpoint… the archers being the crucial part…

Indeed, they were. And as Jane pointed out, many of the “English” archers, if not all, were Welsh.

I imagine that “rain of fletch” can be a terrifying sight.

I watch movies with these battles of arrows raining down from a huge arc… I just can’t even imagine the horror…

I know what you mean. That scene from 300, where the persian arrows literally blot out the sun, devastates! And that’s with the Spartans surviving!
