Lunar Amity

(Photo byย John McKaveney: Bright Moon)

I can’t remember when we met. Was I truly just a boy? Gazing up at you, as you coyly peaked out of the clouds, some star-obscured night.

I can certainly remember the loves I brought before you. Our deep embraces, so luscious with savored intimacy, offered up to you like a libation.

& I remember the night you set me free. To run wild across the backwoods of the mountains, howling in delight. Accompanying my brothers and sisters on the long hunts of whitetail, or whatever enticing prey whose scent we caught.

Always, dear Lua, have you been the best of friends.

Even

as the clouds

roll in

I can count

on your face

You had me wondering when I first met the moon?โ€‚When did its magical allure take hold on my heart?โ€‚How far back in time must I travel to find the answers?

I have been told that I first met the moon when I became angry when myโ€‚father couldn’t take it down for me….

I enjoyed reading about your amity with the constant moon, Ken. I especially love the description of it coyly peeking out of the clouds and the (were)wolves running โ€˜wild across the backwoods of the mountains, howling in delightโ€™.

Lovely piece, Frank. When I was a child, I wanted to kidnap the moon. My mom told me that was selfish and I had to share it with others.
