A farewell to Pretty in Pink

Hello, new friend.

I did not know you long. Not like my beloved Maple Tree, whose shade protected my deck during the searing summer months. Technically, you’re not even my tree, as you stand on my neighbor’s front yard.

But your luscious cherry blossoms brightened these last two Springs. Sure, you bloomed late this year, but I’m sure you had your reasons.

Your magnificient blossoms more than made up for your tardiness.

Although we only shared two years together, I will miss you when we’re gone.

That’s one beauty of a tree. Your haibun honors it well.

I feel like my neighbors’ trees are somewhat mine, too! Lovely haibun, Frank!

Leaving beloved trees, even if not in one’s own yard is cause for grieving. Make sure there’s at least one where you are going next.

I like the way you address the neighbourโ€™s cherry tree as a new friend, Frank, and how you say goodbye to it. I hope you find another tree to make friends with.

Aww, the personification is wonderful, especially to this tree-lover. I like the way the ending caught me by surprise. Moving is always difficult, no matter what we are leaving behind.
