“Birds aren’t Real!”

All together

Blackbirds singing

compline

destitute of the hope

everwhere squandered

flying at first light

geese arrowing toward

home

inured to the

javelins hurled their way

killed by shots, or arrows

loosed by thoses

masses intent on them

no rest for

other avians, like the

perigine, or prey like

quail, hiding from the

raucous dispoilers

shattering the silence

tearing apart their

universe

Viscious this species

we are, walking this earth like

Xerxes trampling Greece

Young we are, yet have we reached our

Zenith—& now fall?

Laura, tending MTB ovevr at dVerse, declares “we are becoming Abecedarians

This definitely had a great flow and love how you constructed the poem. Birds are wonderful creatures to write about.

A unique alphabetical series and a serious question posed at the end, Frank.

a quiet yet firm indictment Frank – this abecedarius took flight with all the birds and what a contrast with us as Xerxes trampling Greece,

So many extinctions along the way. Maybe we’ll be one of them. As long as our beautiful planet survives I’m ok with it.
